Ushakova3 1ФГУЗ «Читинская противочумная станция» Роспотребнадзора, Чита: pchs.zool.chita@mail.ru 2ГУ Дирекция особо охраняемых территорий Забайкальского края 3Сохондинский государственный природный биосферный заповедник: sochondo@rambler.ru In the ХIX and beginning of the ХХ century in Southeast Transbaikalia the biggest settlements of the Mongolian marmot - tarbagan were marked. The rodents occupied all suitable habitats. Unlimited entrapment of marmots, annihilation by anti-plague stations, plowing of virgin steppes by the mid 60-ies, caused that the Mongolian marmot became rare everywhere in Transbaikalia. As a result, in 2000 tarbagan as endangered species Transbaikalia was included in the Red Book of Chita region and Aginsky Buryat Autonomous District. Currently, in steppe landscapes of Transbaikalia within the basic part of the range in Onon, Olovjaninsky, Borzinsky, Transbaikalian, Krasnokamensky and Priargunsky areas, Mongolian marmot can be met sporadically. The structure of the population became mosaic, separate colonies and the families live in the tens of kilometers from each other. In the article the data of registration works of Federal State Institution of Public Health Chita Anti-Plague Station, the State service on management, control and regulation of use of objects of fauna of Transbaikalian territory, State Directorate of Protected Areas of Transbaikalian territory, Sohondinsky state natural biospheric reserve, and also literary data on places of meetings and a condition the number of population of the Mongolian marmot for last 3-5 years are presented. Actual data on registration of the Mongolian marmot in 2008-2009 gather anti-plague service, the Directorate of Protected Areas, Sokhondinsky State Biosphere Nature Reserve. Great help in gathering information on distribution and number of animals in areas of the region have provided the inspectors the State service on management, control and regulation of use of objects of fauna of Transbaikalian territory. The article provides data on the number of Mongolian marmot in the Trans-Baikal Region of the Russian Federation. As a result of this research on the territory of Eastern Transbaikalia, tarbagan habitats were found in 16 administrative districts of the Trans-Baikal region. Currently, the Trans-Baikal territory inhabited by up to 7.000 individuals of tarbagan.
