KEEPING MARMOTS AT HOME BY WAY OF EXAMPLE OF COMMONWEALTH «SURKIN DOM» I.V. Gershtein, A.A. Kolesov Commonwealth of marmot breeders «Surkin Dom»: Cam69@rambler.ru; jcuken@gmail.com Commonwealth of marmot breeders \"Surkin Dom\" (Marmot\'s Home) was founded in 2004. By the end of 2004, there were 6 owners of marmots from the Moscow region at the website. Currently, our community consists of the owners of 22 domestic animals in 4 regions of Russia (Moscow, Moscow re-gion, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg) and from Kazakhstan. To date, more than 450 materials about marmots were published: video, photo essays, arti-cles, fiction, research materials, legends, fairy tales, etc. For 6 and a half years of the Commonwealth’s existence, the experience of keeping marmots at home was systematized in the methodical recommendations for beginners or potential marmot breeders and published on the website. These recommendations are based on observation of the different aspects of the life of marmots in cap-tivity, such as: • Seasonal activity of the animals. • Preparing for hibernation and hibernation itself • Sex difference in the behavior of domestic marmots • The relationships of marmots with other pets. We don\'t popularize keeping of marmots, considering that groundhog is a wild beast and it\'s better to live in nature. We are just trying to unite the owners of marmots and help properly keep those animals which are destined for any reason, to live with a man. At the same time, our commonwealth needs consultations and the method-ical help of scientists, experts in the breeding marmots in captivity, and vet-erinarians who have experience in the treatment of marmots. We are interested in receiving any information about the marmots, contacting with the fans of these animals from different regions and countries. All submitted materials re-lated to groundhogs, in agreement with the authors, may be published on our portal.
