Résumé
Results of the third year (2006) of four-years-lasting research on the occurrence of Marmota marmota latirostris (Kratochvíl, 1961) in the West Tatras Mts. are given in the paper. Coordinates of all burrows found were obtained by high-accurate GPS. All coordinates were put into digital maps. The area between Ostrý Roháč peak and Bystrá peak was studied. Exactly 3.197 burrows were found in the studied area in total. They form 46 colonies (family groups), 36 of them are inhabited and 10 of them are uninhabited. The biggest inhabited colony was formed by 190 burrows, the smallest one was formed by 32 burrows. Horizontal amplitude of the occurrence of marmots in the studied area is 7240 m and vertical amplitude is 383 m. Both natural and anthropic impacts on the occurrence of marmots in the area are discussed. There were found several burrows outside of the territories of some individual colonies. It is assumed that marmots use these burrows during their movements. So far three quarters of the whole West Tatra Mts. region have been monitored. In total, 12 479 burrows were found forming 117 inhabited colonies.
