Résumé
The Tatra marmot (Marmota marmota latirostris, Kratochvíl 1961) is an endemic subspecies of the Alpine marmot. It occurs in the Tatra Mts. region. Recently it is known only from the Western, the High and the Low Tatras. Probably in 2006 it disappeaered from the Belianske Tatry Mts. where it also lived. As no marmot was observed in the Belianske Tatry Mts. in 2007, an optimal method of its reintroduction, based on my former research of the occurrence of the species in the West Tatras Mts., is given in the paper. Main reintroduction strategies are discussed. Especially an appropriate trapping site, age-sex structure of captured marmots, appropriate timing, habitat evaluation, release site preparation are suggested. A prompt realization of the reintroduction is necessary to take an advantage of still existing functional burrows at the release site.
