Résumé

The inventoy research of the Tatra marmot (Marmota marmota latirostris, Kratochvil, 196l) was undertaken during the years 1982 to 1985. A total of 161 marmot colonies was recorded (49 in the region of Podbansko, 69 in the High Tatas - South, 28 in the High Tatras - North, l5 in the Belianske Tatry Mountains). It may be stated that after 20 years the number of colonies declined from l79 to 161. The largest decrease occurred in the northern part of the High Tatras (by 32 colonies), mainly in the valleys Svistov àdolina, Rovienkov à dolina, Litvorov à dolina, dolina Svistoviek and Litvorov zlab. Also the number of individuals on the various localities decrceased. The Tatra marmot lives in the High Tatras and the Belianske Tatry Mountains in habitats above the subalpine vegetation belt at elevations from 1.530 to 2.260 m above sea)-level. As to the exposition, colonies exposed to SSW - SW - W prevail. The number of colonies and their localization change with the years, therefore it is necesserary to record them both at the ranger’s district and in the Central Office of the National Park (department of Nature Conservation and Research Station).
